Getting Started

Deciding on a new timekeeping, payroll or HR system can be a daunting task. We have put together some ideas for your consideration in making the decision. We hope they are helpful.

What does my company need today? tomorrow?

Most good business people know where they are going! Well at least where they would like to be. Looking at the companies that are like the one you want to be is a good way to see what system you should invest your time and money. Time is a much bigger investment in your new time system than one might image. Learning a system will take a certain amount of time. More importantly, investing in a product that makes you more efficient will give rewards for the future as well. Not all systems are alike, TMS has selected the most efficient and powerful products available. They will pay dividends every day with their ease of use and flexibility!

Purchase, Lease or Rent?

For the last 50 years, we are told it is always better to purchase a product. Own it... However, lately some of the companies have grown quickly and then had to downsize. Some have IT departments with the time to install and maintain software and hardware, others don't want to expand their IT load. Leasing is good for a company that needs a system and doesn't have the capitol to finance it immediately, but will be able to afford the monthly costs and enjoy the write-off. SaaS (Software as a Service)  is a new method of enjoying the benefits of a top-notch system without the long-term commitment of cash, hardware and IT staff time. It isn't right for everyone but has become very popular with small to medium companies for a variety of good reasons. Talk to your TMS rep and ask if it is a good fit for you.

Training

Training has changed in the last several years with the growth of the internet. Training can now be done in webinars instead of on-site. On-site is available but many computer savvy timekeepers would prefer to receive their training without the intrusion. What type of training is right for you should be discussed with your TMS sales representative.

Price and Value

Price is the what you give for a product or service, value is what you receive. The best value should be the reason for purchase. Many companies start with low, low prices and then charge outrageously after you own it. We're not like that. We think your value should outrank price throughout the lifetime of the purchase. Also, watch out for companies that drastically drop their prices after they find out they have competition! Are they the type of people that you really want to work with on this project?

Big Company or Independent Dealer?

With all of the stories about big greedy companies, wouldn't it be refreshing to work with an independent company that has been successful because of hard work, honesty and good people? TMS has flourished because they stand behind their products and their work. Or you can purchase your system from one of those companies that have been purchased by an investment group. You are just a revenue stream to those companies. With TMS, you are a customer-- and an important one!`

Before Purchase

  1. Make sure you have an agreement that is specific in the product, service and training you will need to have a successful installation.
  2. Have all pricing clearly stated, no surprises!
  3. Get buy-in from your timekeeper and your Payroll/HR personnel, they are the ones who will use it.
  4. Set a date for installation that provides time for your personnel to be able to assimilate the new system without normal workload.
  5. Make sure the computer requirements are met before the installation date.
  6. Move forward! Companies that know how they are spending their money are solid in tough economic times and terrific in good times!
